Three years ago Konrad and I went to Bali, Indonesia for our honeymoon. It is filled with striking buildings, interesting homes, and beautiful craftsmanship. The island of Bali is truly a feast for the eyes. Around every corner is inspiration for our homes here is Saskatoon. I thought I would share some of our photos to show the colour and design we were lucky to walk through and breath in. And, apparently to torture myself and others with photos of hot tropical landscape in the dead of winter. Sorry, but it's worth a look.
Of course there were stunning views but we were also stuck by the detail and design that seemed to cover everything. If you want a unique feature door Bali has got them. There was gorgeous hand carved wooden doors everywhere. Some were more simple (by simple I mean slightly less intricate) with rich wood stain. Others were so full of colour and vibrant you almost expected them to come to life. Ornate gold and bright colours of the surrounding landscape were echoed in all the buildings we saw.
Another observation that you would have to be very unobservant to not notice, is all of the natural materials that are used in the construction of all the buildings. Towering thatch roofs, romantic stone court yards, wooden carvings, and clay shingles, somehow all this man made whirlwind of design and colour looks perfectly at home with the natural beauty of Bali. We don't exactly have all that flair to use for inspiration in Saskatoon but hey that's what the internet and pintrest are for.
And, there is water! Water, water everywhere and not a drop drink. Really, you don 't want to drink most of it but it is magically beautiful. There are many spiritual fountains that have been used as long as anyone can remember. Why settle for a little fish pond when you can go big with these ideas? Well digging out your entire yard and filling it with water and life size stone sculptures aren't exactly everyone's thing. Rather difficult to take out the trash. But it is satisfying to dream a bit of having a fantastical water feature like one of these.
I could go on with the other one thousand two hundred and forty seven photos that I have, but you're not my family so I won't put you through that. Suffice to say there was much beauty and style to bring into your own home remodelling projects. Hopefully these photos gave you a little taste of what can be.
